As officers in full uniform approached to investigate, the GMC attempted to flee, struck two Warren patrol cars and allegedly drove towards officers, according to preliminary investigation by Warren Police Department.

“An officer involved shooting then occurred,” according to a news release from the department.

A Warren officer discharged their weapon during this incident, Police Lt. John Gajewski said in an email to the Free Press on Saturday, Sept. 13. He said the order of events and further details are under open investigation.

After the officer-involved shooting, the GMC fled the scene with Warren officers in pursuit, according to the news release.

The vehicle became disabled near Eight Mile Road and Yonka Street in Detroit, and Warren police took the four people riding in the vehicle into custody, according to Warren police.

The Detroit Fire Department took the injured suspect to an area hospital where the person is listed in stable condition and remains in police custody, according to the Friday, Sept. 12, evening news release.

Officers on the scene and the three other suspects sustained no injuries, according to the news release.

Warren Police Department investigators and evidence technicians responded to both scenes and continue the investigation.

This is at least the second Warren police officer-involved shooting since July. After neighbors raised concerns about an officer-involved shooting on July 8, the department released some body camera footage.
