The passenger shot the officers while they were chasing him, according to Baldwin.

He said the shooting was “unprovoked.”

Both officers were transported to the Grant Medical Center. One is in critical condition and another is in stable condition.

Baldwin told WBNS-10 that the suspect got away.

Columbus police initially said one person was in custody, but Baldwin later said that person was the driver.

He said they were cooperative and have since been released. The driver is not considered a suspect at this time, according to WBNS-10.

Authorities believe the suspect is a 30-year-old man wearing a gray shirt and camouflage pants.

“We do have information on the suspect. He is currently on the run. He is armed and dangerous,” Baldwin said.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9 President Brian Steel told WBNS-10 that two Columbus police officers were involved in a crash while responding to the shooting. Both were injured, but are described in stable condition.
