DOVER TOWNSHIP ‒ A 1-year-old Dover Township girl is dead after she was attacked by her family’s pit bull on July 2 at her residence, according to law enforcement.
According to Detective Capt. Adam Fisher of the Tuscarawas Sheriff’s Office, the attack appeared to be unprovoked. He said it occurred while the family was going about its daily routine.
Family members called 911, and the sheriff’s office and the Dover Fire Department responded to the scene. Detectives from the sheriff’s office and personnel from the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office also responded. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 8-year-old dog has been euthanized.
.
The Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office is conducting an autopsy. Fisher said that state law requires an autopsy when a child under the age of 2 dies suddenly who was in good health.
No criminal charges are pending at this time, but an investigation is ongoing, Fisher said.
