An 11-year-old Apple Valley girl was killed in a wreck on the 15 Freeway in Devore on Sunday, law enforcement officials said.

The crash took place about 6:50 p.m. on the northbound 15 Freeway, just south of Glen Helen Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The girl, whose identity was not released, was riding as a front passenger in a Ford Expedition, officials said. Five other people were riding in the SUV. The vehicle was headed north in the No. 2 lane at an undetermined speed.

“For reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle veered sharply to the left, lost control, and struck the concrete center median,” CHP officers said in an written statement. “Following the initial crash, the Ford Expedition overturned and came to rest on its wheels in the southbound lanes.”

Two southbound vehicles — a Tesla Model 3 and a Maserati Grecale — also became involved in the wreck, officials said.

The young girl died at the scene, according to the CHP.

The five others who had been riding in the Ford were taken to a hospital with apparently minor injuries. No injuries were reported from the Tesla or the Maserati.

An investigation into the cause of the crash was ongoing.
