An 18-year-old was killed and a 13-year-old arrested on a murder charge after a shooting incident April 22 in Benton Park, the Amarillo Police Department said.
APD said officers were called to the park at 1401 S. Vernon at about 7:31 p.m. on reports of a shooting. After they arrived, they found an 18-year-old who had been shot.
Officers began performing first aid on the injured until they were relieved by paramedics, but Ethan DeLeon died at the scene.
Officers learned DeLeon had been shot inside his vehicle, and APD’s Homicide Unit responded. From their investigation, it was discovered a 13-year-old male juvenile was the suspected shooter. The juvenile was arrested and booked into the Youth Center of the High Plains on a murder charge.
The incident remains under investigation.
