15-year-old gunned down in New Haven in targeted attack

A teenager was gunned down in New Haven on Tuesday afternoon when he was chased down by at least one person in what police believe was a targeted attack.

Police officers shortly responded to the area of Greenwood Street and Legion Avenue before 3:30 p.m. where ShotSpotter detected gunfire and multiple 911 callers reported a shooting, according to the New Haven Police Department.

Police said a 15-year-old New Haven boy died in the shooting. He has not been identified.

According to police, investigators were able to piece together what led to the shooting using city cameras and information from witnesses. Police said they were able to obtain a lot of information very early in the investigation.

Investigators believe the teen was targeted after leaving a nearby corner store. He was chased down by at least one person and was gunned down, police said.

The teen lived nearby and was headed home when he was shot, according to police.

The shooting remains under investigation.
