16-year-old boy run over by car during Nerf war in Sauk Rapids Saturday

A 16-year-old Rice boy was run over by a car Saturday afternoon.

The Sauk Rapids Police Department and Mayo Ambulance were sent to the accident shortly before 3 p.m. near South Side Park in Sauk Rapids.

High school-aged youth were playing “Nerf wars” when the boy was reportedly run over, according to the police report. He was allegedly hiding on the ground next to the vehicle in question when his friend accidentally drove over him.

The boy was sent to CentraCare – St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a Sauk Rapids Police Department report.

In its report, the Sauk Rapids Police Department advises parents to encourage children to stop Nerf wars, as it presents dangers, such as this accident.

“Some of the activities in the Nerf wars could be considered at minimum a crime of disorderly conduct,” the Sauk Rapids Police Department wrote in a report.
