A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with a fatal car and scooter crash that killed a Stamford man in May, officials said.
Stamford police said they have completed an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle vs. scooter collision that occurred in the 100 block of Hope Street on May 29, just before 11 p.m.
A 2011 BMW was northbound on Hope Street and collided with a person riding a stand-up scooter that was also northbound, police said. The impact caused the scooter operator, a 46-year-old Stamford resident, to be thrown from his scooter onto the roadway. The scooter was heavily damaged and broken into several pieces, police said.
The scooter operator, identified as Christian Dinamarca, was initially transported to Stamford Hospital with serious injuries. While Dinamarca was in the hospital, his condition worsened, and he died on June 11, 2025, police said.
Police said the operator of the vehicle that struck Dinamarca was arrested on Saturday, Sept. 27. The operator, a 17-year-old Stamford resident, turned himself in at Stamford Police Headquarters after an arrest warrant had been completed and signed.
The minor, whose name is being withheld because of age, is charged with negligent homicide with a motor vehicle and evading responsibility, police said.
The 17-year-old posted a $100,000 bond and was released from custody, officials said.
