A teenage girl was killed in a shooting in Waterbury in the early morning hours Friday.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired at 2:48 a.m. in the area of 185 Willow St. where the teenage victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police Department.
The 17-year-old Waterbury girl was taken to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, Bessette said. Her identity has not been released.
According to Bessette, a preliminary investigation found that a disturbance outside involving a group of individuals led to the shooting.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation,” Bessette said in a statement.
Bessette said the shooting is being “actively” investigated by Major Crimes Detectives.
