By India Today Web Desk: France are set to be up against England in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup. Two of the strongest teams in the tournament will be meeting in the final 8 on Saturday, 10 December evening at the Al Byat Stadium. The likes of Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane, Olivier Giroud, Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham will take centre-stage and it is expected to be an electric clash.
The build up to the game has been well hyped by both fans and players with Kyle Walker stating that he would not be rolling out the red carpet for French striker Mbappe. On the other hand France midfielder Adrian Rabiot has said that he expects England to be defensive against France in a starc contrast to what the English team has been in this tournament.
“They have players who are fast on the wings, fullbacks who are very offensive,” Rabiot said.
“They won’t take all the risks because we can also hurt them on the flanks,” he further added.
All eyes will be on Kylian Mbappe once again with the winger being in great form. He has already scored five goals and provided two assists in his four games for the defending champions. In France’s first knockout game of the competition, Mbappe fired in two second half goals, despite having a mediocre game for the most part. With him, he will have the support of Olivier Giroud, who broke the record for being the highest goalscorer for France, surpassing Thierry Henry.
Les Bleus are looking to become the first team to retain the title since Brazil in 1958-1962, were hit hard by injuries ahead of the tournament with midfielders Paul Pogba and Ngolo Kante, and forward Karim Benzema all ruled out. However, the team has shown incredible depth in their squad to dominate their games in the competition.
