The arrested accused were identified as Mohammed Thoufeek (25), Umar Faaruq alias K Srinivasan (39) and Ferose Khan (28).
Earlier, the NIA had arrested six people in connection with the blast. An NIA statement following the arrests said as per preliminary investigations, Mubeen, “after taking bayat (oath of alligence) to the IS, planned to carry out a suicide attack and cause extensive damage to symbols and monuments of a particular religious faith and with the intention to strike terror among people”.
Investigations also revealed that Umar Faaruq and Ferose Khan were part of the conspiracy meetings attended by Mubeen at Umar’s residence in Coonoor, Nilgiris, and also provided support to the deceased accused in the commission of the terror acts. Thoufeek was in possession of incriminating literature/ books connected to radical Islam and also had handwritten notes on preparation of explosives, NIA said.
