By India Today Web Desk: Marnus Labuschagne signed off a memorable Test series against West Indies with a well-deserving Player of the Series award. The right-hander, who is enjoying his purple patch, said that he felt nice to score runs consistently.

The 28-year-old amassed 502 runs across two Tests, including a double hundred and two centuries, against West Indies. Although the hosts Australia convincingly won the series 2-0, Labuschagne does not want to sit on his current tally and instead shift focus on the next assignment against South Africa.

“Nice to be going through a patch where you are scoring runs consistently and your team winning consistently,” Labuschagne said after the second Test.

“You sit back at the end of the career and try to sink in,” he added, on reflecting on his dream run of form. “At the moment, you gotta be thinking about the next match and series, feels really good. Nice coming on the back of some success here.

“You trust your game playing against the pink ball, takes a little longer to get used to it as compared to the red ball. The pink ball keeps moving consistently. It just has not sunk in yet. We got a massive series coming up against South Africa, hopefully the form can continue. It is gonna be a nice fiery contest with both pace attacks coming against each other.”

During the Test series, the number three Labuschagne became the second-fastest man in history to score 3000 Test runs, only behind Donald Bradman. While the legendary Bradman achieved the feat in 33 innings, Labuschagne reached in 51 innings.

Australia will now gear up to host South Africa for three Tests from December 17 to January 8 before travelling to India to play four Tests in February-March 2023.
