By India Today Web Desk: Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes broke his silence about the team’s exit from the World Cup on Saturday at the hands of Morocco and said that their dream fell apart with the defeat.

A goal from Youssef En-Nesyri proved to be the difference on the night as the Atlas Lions defence was strong and they thwarted the efforts made by the Portuguese on the night. Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was also in inspirational form as he made some fantastic saves.

Fernandes was Portugal’s best player in the tournament and took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the World Cup exit. The midfielder said it was hard to put into words the emotions they had after full-time on Saturday and that the team’s dream fell apart despite their best efforts.

The Manchester United star said he felt proud of the team despite the exit and also went on to congratulate Morocco for qualifying to the semi-finals.

“It’s hard to put into words all we felt yesterday once the game ended. Our dream fell apart when we did everything to make it end differently. It’s sad and painful because representing our country means so much more than just playing football. Despite the elimination I am very proud to be Portuguese and even more so in all those who represented with me our country in this world cup.

I would also like to congratulate the Moroccan national team for the great game and for qualifying to the semi-finals of the World Cup well deserved,” said Fernandes.

The Portuguese midfielder did lash out at FIFA for having an Argentinian referee officiate the game on Saturday.

“It’s very strange that a referee from a team that whistles us it’s still in the World Cup. They’ve clearly tilted the field against us. I don’t know if they’re going to give the cup to Argentina. I don’t care, I’m going to say what I think and screw them,” Fernandes said after the match.
