By India Today Web Desk: India captain Rohit Sharma penned a special note for Ishan Kishan to welcome him to One Day International (ODI) double hundred club.
Kishan achieved the feat in the third ODI against Bangladesh after he got a chance to open the innings for India in the absence of opener Rohit, who was ruled out of the match through injury.
“Yeh club ka mazza alag hai, Ishan Kishan,” Rohit wrote on Instagram.
The left-hander entered the elite club, which features the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma, with the help of just 126 balls. Kishan, who first scored a hundred in 85 balls, smashed 23 boundaries and nine sixes.
Along the way, Kishan also went past Chris Gayle in hitting an ODI double hundred faster than the West Indian great. Gayle added the rare feather against Zimbabwe in 138 deliveries during the 2015 World Cup.
Kishan, who stitched a 290-run partnership for the second wicket with Virat Kohli, was dismissed for 210 by Taskin Ahmed in the 36th over. India avoided the clean sweep as they defeated Bangladesh by 227 runs.
Meanwhile, Rohit missed the third ODI after suffering a blow to his thumb in the second match while fielding. The India captain was assessed by the BCCI medical team and he underwent scans at a local hospital in Dhaka. Rohit was released from the squad and sent back to Mumbai for special consultation.
As India shift their focus to two-test match series against Bangladesh, a call on Rohit’s availability is yet to be taken. India will play the first Test from December 14 to 18 in Chattogram, followed by the second Test between December 22-26 in Mirpur.
