Twitter Blue vs Meta Verified: how do they compare and which one should you opt for?

Amid slowdown in advertising revenue, social media platforms such as Twitter and Meta Platforms, which owns Instagram and Facebook, have turned to subscription services to boost revenue. Meta on Friday launched its subscription service in the US, which allows Facebook and Instagram users to get the coveted verification badge and a host of members-only features, similar to the Twitter Blue subscription unveiled by Elon Musk-owned micro-blogging platform.

Here’s how Meta Verified and Twitter Blue stack up against each other.

Edit tweet: This feature gives a 30-minute window to make a limited number of changes to published tweets.

Bookmark folders: Twitter Blue subscribers can group and organise bookmarked tweets into folders for faster discovery later.

Custom app icons: With custom app icons, you can change how your Twitter app icon displays on your phone.

NFT profile pictures: NFTs is one of several ways to customize Twitter profile. You can show off the NFTs you own in a hex-shaped profile picture on your Twitter account.

Themes: Twitter Blue lets you choose from colorful options for your app theme.

Custom navigation: This feature lets you choose what appears in your navigation bar, so you get quick access to the content and Twitter destinations you care about most.

Spaces Tab: The new spaces tab is a place to find podcasts, themed audio stations, recorded Spaces, and live Spaces. It’s currently only available to Twitter Blue subscribers on iOS and Android devices, and a select number of people globally.

Longer video upload: Twitter Blue subscribers can upload videos up to ~60 minutes long up to 2GB file size (1080p) (web only).

Longer tweets: Blue subscribers can tweet up to 4,000 characters. You can also compose longer tweets in a quote tweet or reply.

SMS two-factor authentication: As a Twitter Blue subscriber, you can add another layer of protection to your account with access to two-factor authentication via SMS.

How to sign up for Twitter Blue and Meta Verified?

Meta Verified

Go to ‘Settings’ on Instagram or Facebook. Click ‘Accounts Center’, then ‘Meta Verified’. If it’s available for your account, you will see ‘Meta Verified available’ under your name and profile photo.

Select your preferred payment method for your monthly payment.

Complete the verification process and provide a government-issued photo ID to confirm your identity before being approved for a Meta Verified subscription.

Twitter Blue

To subscribe on web, go to twitter.com and select More > Twitter Blue > Subscribe.

If you haven’t already, you’ll be prompted to verify your phone number. Confirm subscription payment.

To subscribe on iOS or Android, go to the profile menu > Twitter Blue > Subscribe. Follow the in-app purchase instructions to complete your subscription.


Meta Verified is currently available only in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Subscription costs $11.99 per month on the web or $14.99 a month on Apple‘s iOS system and Google-owned Android.

Indians can avail Twitter Blue features for a monthly fee of Rs 650 on the web and Rs 900 on mobile devices. The microblogging platform also offers a discounted annual plan of Rs 6,800 per year, which comes to Rs 566.67 per month.

Twitter Blue subscription is currently available in the United States, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Brazil, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Spain and many other countries.
