Sunil Tillu Tajpuriya murder: Tamil Nadu cops on duty in Tihar sent back, to be suspended | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: In a major action against the personnel of the Tamil Nadu Special Police Force (TNSP), who reportedly were mute spectators to the killing of Sunil Tajpuria in Tihar Jail, seven of them were sent back to Tamil Nadu. Their suspensions will follow. The action comes in the wake of the director general of prisons’ letter to the TNSP DG.
Tihar has also decided to equip the members of quick response teams with AK-47 rifles so that they can control violence of any scale effectively.
According to officials, the seven TNSP personnel had already been removed from their duties after they failed to solve the murder. After the incident, jail officials had a meeting with TNSP. “We saw the video where they were seen standing quietly and the attackers were stabbing Tajpuria in front of them. We informed their commandant and the DG of the unit about the inaction by their personnel,” an officer said. The video of the incident had gone viral on social media.

The attack happened in two rounds: in the first, Tajpuria was attacked in his barracks by four men. Later, when security personnel were taking him to the hospital, they were stopped by attackers, who again started stabbing him with improvised weapons. At least nine security personnel were standing and watching but none intervened.

DG Tihar had also submitted a detailed report to LG V K Saxena on the issue. Another officer said they will soon approach the department concerned to ensure that gangsters are shifted to other jails in the country so that they are not able to form groups. “We will also ask for permission from the authority concerned to ensure that every high-risk prisoner is presented before court through video-conferencing so that no untoward incident takes place,” the officer said.
