Milwaukee County officials announced a 34-year-old man housed at the county jail died while in custody Sept. 12.
The man experienced a medical emergency at the Milwaukee County Jail that evening, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.
While meal service was underway, the man, who was not immediately identified by officials, was discovered in a cell in a housing unit unconscious and nonresponsive, the sheriff’s office said.
CPR was administered, Narcan was deployed and 911 was called, according to the sheriff’s office. But the man was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m.
The man had been in custody since Sept. 4 when he was transferred to the jail to face criminal charges after completing a prison sentence for other charges at Waupun Correctional Institution, a maximum-security prison in Dodge County.
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office, an outside agency, is investigating the death to satisfy state law.
This is the third reported death at the facility this year.
