A 55-year-old man is dead after an ATV crash July 26 in Marinette County, according to the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael W. Labree of Gilberts, Illinois was killed in the single-ATV crash, the sheriff’s office said.
Dispatchers received reports of an ATV crash at 5:30 p.m. July 26 on the trail system off of Benson Lake Road in the town of Athelstane. The reports indicated the ATV had rolled over.
The sheriff’s office said Labree was traveling east on the ATV trail system when he failed to negotiate a curve and rolled over, according to the investigation. Labree, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the ATV, the sheriff’s office said.
The crash remains under investigation. Through July 23, a state Department of Natural Resources report documented 23 ATV or UTV fatal crashes. Last year, 40 were recorded for the whole year.
