Two Bergen County men have been arrested after shooting at a pair of vehicles during a dispute outside a Saddle River home, authorities said.
Borough resident Jeremiah Rivera, 19, and Sha’zeik Davis, 20, of Mahwah, were both charged with aggravated assault and weapons possession offenses, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced on July 24. Davis was also charged with first-degree attempted murder, while Rivera faces an additional charge of providing false information to law enforcement.
At 6:16 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, authorities responded to shots fired outside a home on Chestnut Ridge Road. Officers and detectives at the scene determined the shooting was connected to an ongoing dispute between two groups of men, the release stated.
An investigation revealed two vehicles, both occupied by several men, arrived at the house and engaged in a verbal dispute with a resident identified as Rivera, according to the release. Rivera then retrieved a handgun and fired a shot in the direction of the men, who promptly drove away.
The men later returned to continue the dispute, and an acquaintance of Rivera who was at the house, identified as Davis, fired approximately nine gunshots at the group, the release stated. One round struck one of the vehicles, but no injuries were reported as a result.
Rivera was arrested and charged July 16, and the prosecutor’s office filed charges against Davis the following day. On July 24, authorities located and arrested Davis in Mahwah.
Rivera appeared in Bergen County Superior Court and was ordered released pending further court action. Davis was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first court appearance.
