Severe thunderstorms knock out power to thousands, Morris County hit hard

Powerful thunderstorms knocked out power to over 7,000 customers statewide during the late afternoon of July 25, with Morris County taking the brunt of the outages.

Strong winds were reported as storms hit the area with Newark Liberty International Airport recording a wind gust of 63 mph, the National Weather Service reported.

JCP&L’s outage map had over 7,533 people without power at 4 p.m. with Morris County at 6,064 customers with no power. Ocean County also had 1,019.

PSE&G’s outage map, as of 4 p.m., was reporting 2,515 people without power with Union County leading the way with 1,196, Bergen had 590 and Essex 604.

Orange & Rockland was reporting 154 customers in Bergen County without power.

The entire Northeast is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m., according to the NWS.
