GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Friday, July 25, 2025, a 13-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound and a 17-year-old girl died from her gunshot injuries.
Those two make four this week in the city and law enforcement and leaders are speaking out.
Greenville police have suspects in the shootings, including the boyfriend of the teenage girl who officers said was shot accidentally.
“This incident was related to a personal relationship. Her boyfriend was also present, and is our suspect in this one. He is also 17 years old and is in custody and fully cooperating,” Greenville Police Deputy Chief K.Z. Thomas said.
Greenville Mayor P.J. Connelly also spoke out through his Facebook page. He asked people in the city to end the violence and for those that own guns to lock them up and keep them away from the youth.
Deputy Chief Thomas echoed that and asked the city as a whole to step up. “This is where I’m going to ask the community for your help. We are able to be proactive in a lot of situations, but in personal relationships and personal disputes, it’s impossible for us to be able to proactively police those, so we need your help,” she said. “We need you to one, keep all guns, if you’re a gun owner, please make sure you store those guns safely, make sure you keep them out of hands of people that don’t need them, juveniles should not have guns. So, we need your help with that and if you see something, please say something. We cannot do it alone, we really need our community and our partners to all work together so that we can end all of the violence, especially the juvenile violence.”
