Everyone knows summertime means enjoying a good hamburger as much as possible.
If you’re too tired to fire up the grill this week, Family Destinations Guide has a list of seven “legendary burger joints” in Delaware that you might be missing out on.
‘Hidden gem’ burgers in Delaware
Brandywine Diner is opening this fall in the Brandywine Commons Center off Concord Pike.
Smash N’ Dash Burgery in Laurel is said to offer some of the “tastiest smashed burgers” in Delaware, along with quick service.
The burgers are known for being thin and flavorful with a crusty outside that locks in the juices. Family Destinations Guide also highlights Smash N’ Dash’s Italian sausages and old-fashioned floats, which is said to pair perfectly with a burger.
Brandywine Diner in Talleyville is easy to spot thanks to its silver exterior, which Family Destinations Guide described as “takes you back to the good old days when diners ruled American roads,” along with its retro booths and counter seating.
The diner is said to serve thick patties on toasted buns until they’re perfectly golden. To up the experience, indulge in their crispy fries and a thick milkshake. Brandywine Diner also received a shout-out for the family-friendly atmosphere it offers.
2 Fat Guys in Hockessin has a hearty following, so perhaps you’re already familiar with its menu and this is a reminder to stop by soon.

If not, Family Destinations Guide highlights the seasoned patties and fresh buns that don’t fall apart, despite the high pile of toppings. On the menu you’ll find both classic options and adventurous combinations. An honorable mention goes to the onion rings.
Crossroads Restaurant in Milltown serves burgers made by hand and cooked to order, resulting in juicy patties with the “right amount of char on the outside.”
The Family Destinations Guide praises the restaurant’s cozy, familiar atmosphere and its status as a neighborhood staple. Along with their burgers, Crossroads serves crispy fries, fresh coffee and homemade desserts that are fan favorites.

The Backyard in Milton earns a spot on the list for making patrons feel like they’re at a friend’s backyard cookout, and the “burgers taste like they came straight off a backyard grill on a perfect summer day,” according to Family Destinations Guide.
The highlight of the burgers is the “flame-kissed flavor” and the “perfect touch” of seasoning. Whatever you’re in the mood for, the menu offers unique toppings and flavor combinations to create the burger your heart desires. Custom and vegetarian burgers are also available.
To up the order, Family Destinations Guide recommends the hand-cut fries.

MadMacs in Newark might not immediately shout burgers, but Family Destinations Guide thinks otherwise.
A big selling point for the burgers is the fresh patties that are made with “just the right amount of seasoning.” The menu features both classic and creative burger combinations, along with a special sauce that adds a unique flair.
Family Destinations Guide recommends the sweet potato fries with the house dipping sauce.

The Grey Fox Grille in Dover is the final restaurant on the list, said to bring “a touch of historic charm to Dover’s burger scene.”
Despite the elegant exterior, the restaurant serves casual comfort food, including burgers served on a fresh bun and loaded with fresh toppings. And for the pickle lovers out there, the pickles are house-made and add a tangy crunch to each bite.
