Jul. 26—A Lacey’s Spring man was charged Thursday with domestic violence by strangulation after he told his mother he was a figure from the Bible before choking her, according to an investigator’s affidavit.
Cassidy Aron Morrow, 32, was transported to Morgan County Jail where he remained Friday in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
Morrow’s mother told deputies the incident occurred Sunday at her residence when her son kicked in her bedroom door and told her he was “Sampson from the Bible” and that she better mind him. He then dragged her out of her bedroom into the hallway and began choking her and told her he was going to snap her neck and kill her, according to the affidavit.
“(The mother) said that he would let go and then squeeze her throat again several times and burnt her neck with a cigarette, then punched her in the face,” the affidavit said.
This is not the first time deputies have responded to the Morrow residence for domestic violence issues between him and his mother.
According to an affidavit, on Aug. 3, 2022, Morgan County sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in Lacey’s Spring where Morrow’s mother said he was drunk and irate. She told deputies he had been drinking liquor and wanted to “get in bed” with his girlfriend, but the girlfriend refused and locked herself in another bedroom in the residence.
“(The mother) then told deputies that Cassidy told her to open the door but she told him to chill out and go to bed,” the affidavit said. “Cassidy then went crazy and got in her face screaming at her to go talk with (his girlfriend) and started beating the door and walls with his fist and head.”
He continued to punch and head-butt the door until he knocked himself unconscious.
“Once Cassidy came to, (the mother) stated that he went back into the living room and started rolling on the floor hollering,” the affidavit said.
Morrow’s mother told deputies that he had never hit her but had been physical with her and his father about a month prior and she feared for her well-being. Because of that fear, the affidavit said, deputies charged Morrow with third-degree domestic violence.
The case was dismissed without prejudice after the state’s witness failed to show up in court, according to an order from Morgan County District Judge Kevin Kusta on Sep. 28, 2022.
