A car crash on Harding Pike that killed a 3-year-old girl has resulted in homicide charges against her mother.
Karlisha Norwood, 35, has been charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication and criminal homicide, Metro Nashville Police said. She also will be charged with child endangerment, aggravated child abuse, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, driving under the influence and driving without insurance, police said.
Norwood, who is in custody, had her bail set at $285,000.
Norwood’s son, also 3, was injured in the crash, which occurred at 8:15 a.m. July 16. He is still being treated at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
Norwood was treated at and released into police custody at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
The traffic collision occurred on Harding Pike near Percy Warner Boulevard in Nashville. Police said Norwood was driving a 2011 Nissan Sentra when she crossed double yellow lines into on-coming traffic. Norwood’s car hit a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck head-on, police said.
The driver of the truck was not seriously injured in the crash.
