Where recreational marijuana will be sold in Delaware

Must read

Recreational marijuana is going to be for sale, legally, for the first time in Delaware’s history on Aug. 1.

State Marijuana Commissioner Joshua Sanderlin was sworn in earlier in 2025, and his first priority was getting the industry off the ground. The fastest way to start selling legal weed is by converting existing medical dispensaries into recreational ones. A converted store still has to operate its medical supply, according to state law.

Most of the medical marijuana stores in Delaware are converting. They paid a hefty price to convert, which can be more than $200,000.

“The start of legal adult-use marijuana sales reflects the tireless efforts of our regulatory team and our strong partnerships with state agencies, industry stakeholders, and community leaders,” Sanderlin said in the announcement on July 1.

Best Buds was planning on another converted recreational weed store in the heart of Wilmington, but it was recently slammed with a cease and desist from the city. The Fresh Cannabis medical dispensaries in Seaford and Milford will be remaining medical only for now because of townwide bans on recreational weed sales.
