Three people, including a 1-year-old child, died after a multi-vehicle crash July 26 in Breckenridge County, Kentucky State Police Post 4 spokesperson Scotty Sharp said in a statement.
Around 5:10 p.m. CST, KSP Post 4 troopers received a call from the Breckenridge County Dispatch requesting KSP investigate a two-vehicle collision near the 13000 block of KY 261, Sharp said. In a preliminary investigation, troopers determined a Ford F-150 traveling southbound on KY-261 crossed the center line and struck a Chevrolet Silverado head-on, causing both vehicles to be engulfed in flames.
The driver of the Silverado, 22-year-old Hunter Lyons, and a 1-year-old passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene by officials with the Breckenridge County Coroner’s Office, Sharp said. The driver of the F-150, 48-year-old Joseph Maynard of Owensboro, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman riding in the Silverado was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Sharp said it’s not clear why Maynard’s vehicle crossed the center line. The crash remains under investigation of Trooper John Goldsborough.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by officials with the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office, Breckinridge County EMS, Hardinsburg Fire Department and Fordsville Fire Department.
