Police are investigating an attempted car burglary that escalated into a shooting over the weekend on the Interstate 40 entrance ramp at Old Hickory Boulevard in Nashville.
Police identified Tyquan Jackson, 26, as the man shot.
Investigators say two suspects were breaking into Jackson’s vehicle in the parking lot of End Zone, 5751 Old Hickory Boulevard, around 11:15 p.m. on July 26.
The suspects drove away and Jackson followed them, police said, noting that shots rang out as the two cars turned onto the I-40 east ramp. One round hit Jackson in the head. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was listed in extremely critical condition, police said.
No suspects had been identified in the case as of July 28 and it was not clear how many were involved in the shooting.
Police said security guards at a nearby apartment complex heard the gunshots and found Jackson.
