Late July heat and humidity will linger across the Mid-Missouri River Valley through Tuesday, before t-storm chances and a welcome cool off arrive later in the week. Heat alerts remain in place across the region through 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 29. A Heat Advisory is in place along and south of the highway 36 corridor. An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued across far Northwest Missouri. A combination of high heat and humidity will result in heat index values well over 100 degrees both Monday and Tuesday, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours. These oppressive conditions will bring an increased risk for heat related illness, especially for those without access to air conditioning.
Mostly clear skies will continue Monday evening and overnight, with lows falling into the mid 70s after midnight and light southeast breezes. Sunshine continues Tuesday, with afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s and heat index values peaking well over 105 degrees. Light southerly breezes Tuesday will provide little relief from the combination of heat and humidity. Isolated t-storm chances arrive Tuesday night, as a cold front approaches the region. Scattered to widespread t-storms are anticipated Wednesday, with high temperatures falling into the low 80s. Rain chances will subside Thursday, as cooler and drier air sweep across the Central Plains keeping high temperatures in the mid to upper 70s through the end of the work week and much of the weekend!
