A Columbus man charged in connection with a 2024 shootout that left one man dead was sentenced on July 28 to community control.
Kiante Lee, 28, was one of three people charged with murder and several other charges in connection with the shooting, which happened in the early hours of April 9, 2024, in the 2700 block of Brentnell Avenue. Officers responded there on a report of a shooting, where they found 24-year-old Dedrick Robinson suffering from a gunshot wound. He later died at a local hospital, The Dispatch previously reported.
Homicide detectives said that Robinson and a second person were seen outside of the residence on Brentnell Avenue that night when Robinson fired once into the home. Lee and 30-year-old Terrell Thomas, who both lived at the residence, immediately exited the home and shot at Robinson, with one of the bullets striking him. It is unclear what Robinson was doing at the home, and police have not identified the second person who was with him.
Lee was initially charged with murder, aggravated murder, reckless homicide, two counts of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, and having weapons under disability in connection with the shooting. As part of a plea deal, Lee pleaded guilty to the two felonious assault charges and to reckless homicide, while the other charges were dismissed.
Lee was sentenced to five years of community control, according to Franklin County Common Pleas Court filings. If he violates the terms of his community control, he faces up to five years in prison.
In addition to Lee, Thomas was also charged and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault, The Dispatch previously reported. He was sentenced to eight to 10½ years in prison in November 2024. A third person, 33-year-old Sheleeah Foggie, was initially charged with murder but the charges were later dismissed, according to court records.
