Sam’s Club plans to remodel all 600 stores, including these 10 in Wisconsin

Sam’s Club, the membership-only warehouse retail store chain owned by Walmart, has major expansion plans.

The business plans to open about 15 stores per year and remodel all 600 of its stores.

It announced the plan at Walmart Inc.’s 2025 Investment Community Meeting on April 9. With the increased number of locations, Sam’s Club aims to double its membership numbers and more than double sales and profit over the next eight to 10 years.

In January 2023, the company announced plans to open 30 new clubs across the country over the next several years in addition to announcing a “multiple-year plan to invest in and modernize” its supply chain. In last week’s announcement, Sam’s Club said it will still open 30 locations “while building a pipeline to open approximately 15 new clubs each year over the planning horizon.”

The remodeled stores will follow the model of a store that reopened in Grapevine, Texas, in late 2024 after being forced to close due to damage sustained during an EF-1 tornado in December 2022.

After extensive renovations, the location introduced the company’s “register-free shopping experience.”

“High-top tables near the showroom and entrance are staffed by member specialists ready to assist anyone new to Scan & Go,” the company said in news release in December 2024, adding that the register-free experience was “met with enthusiasm, with the majority of members preferring the streamlined system in its first week.”

With the new store design, customers can also explore online exclusives, use Scan & Go to add items to their cart and ship purchases directly to their doorsteps.

Sam’s Club operates 10 locations in Wisconsin, according to the company’s online store locator. The company hasn’t announced when these locations will be remodeled or if more stores are coming to Wisconsin.
