MARTIN COUNTY — Members of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office gathered today to honor Shawn Green, a deputy who died off-duty in a crash with a semi-truck in Okeechobee County on July 30.

A visitation at Christ Fellowship Church at 10205 S.W. Pratt Whitney Road in Stuart was held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. today before the funeral service.

Members of the Martin, Okeechobee, and Palm Beach county sheriff’s offices came to pay their respects. Martin County Fire Rescue sent a fire engine, which sat at the entrance of the church displaying an American flag.

Green, 46, a 25-year veteran of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, died following a crash with a semi-truck on Southwest Warfield Boulevard, also known as State Road 710, in Okeechobee County.

At about 3 a.m. July 30, Green’s 2025 GMC Sierra pickup, which was going north on SR-710 northwest of Southeast 59th Boulevard, crossed the center line and crashed into the front of a 2025 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, according to a release from Lt. Indiana Miranda, Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson.

On July 30 Green did not show up for work, which was unlike him, Sheriff John Budensiek said. His supervisors reached out to the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office because Green was a resident of that county.

Budensiek said Green began his career at the sheriff’s office in corrections, went to road patrol, then back to corrections. His most recent position was in Martin County Courthouse security.

“The sheriff’s office family is definitely grieving,” Budensiek said.
