Officer shot driver in Publix parking lot in Ocoee on Sunday, police say

While looking for a stolen vehicle, an officer shot a driver inside the suspected car on Sunday, the Ocoee Police Department said.

Around 11:30 a.m. officers were in the area of 301 West Road looking for a stolen vehicle and spotted it in the parking lot in front of Publix, the department said in a statement on X.

When officers approached the vehicle, the driver inside drove in the direction of an officer in an attempt to flee, the department said.

An officer fired his gun and shot the driver, OPD said. No officers were injured.

The driver was taken to Advent Health Hospital and is in critical condition, according to the agency.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.
