Drivers on westbound U.S. 20 near Rockford are set to encounter lane reductions due to upcoming bridge repairs.
Construction is scheduled to begin Aug. 12 on the westbound U.S. 20 bridge over eastbound U.S. Business 20 in Winnebago County, according to a community announcement.
The Illinois Department of Transportation plans to repair the bridge deck and replace expansion joints. During the project, westbound U.S. 20 is expected to be reduced to one lane using a barrier wall. The work zone is located just west of Rockford and the project is anticipated to be completed by mid-October, according to the announcement.
The department urges drivers to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zone, obey posted speed limits, avoid using mobile devices and remain alert for workers and equipment.
