The Green Bay area has a reputation for paper, trucking and food production, but health care companies remain the largest local employers in 2025.
The Green Bay area’s 15 largest employers include four health care providers who combined employ almost 11,000 people in Brown County, according to 2025 Community Snapshot published by the Greater Green Bay Chamber.
Add in the 4,900 employees between the two health insurance companies in the top 15 and you’ve got about 8.2% of the estimated 182,700 working people in the Green Bay metro area, which includes Brown, Oconto and Kewaunee counties.
Several other industries with significant presences the Green Bay area saw multiple companies crack the top 15. Here’s the list, plus a few observations and notes.
Emplify Health by Bellin is the biggest employer in the Green Bay area, with 5,131 employees.

Here are the top 15 largest employers in the Green Bay area ranked from 15th to first, according to the Chamber’s 2025 Community Snapshot. Companies that ranked in the top 15 in 2015 will have their prior rank included in parenthesis.

Notes and observations
It appears the city’s ACFR in 2015 only ranked private businesses, not governments and school districts. Hence, the public entities did not factor into rankings a decade ago.
Among the top 15, Georgia-Pacific and United Healthcare saw some of the largest declines in local employees in the last decade. Georgia-Pacific’s workforce has declined from 1,950 people in 2015 to 1,400 in 2024. United Healthcare’s workforce declined from 1,828 in 2015 to 1,300 in 2024, according to data in the city’s financial report.
