Big Lots plans to reopen stores in Alabama. See dates and locations of reopening.

Must read

Following a bankruptcy filing and widespread store closures in 2024, Big Lots is returning, with several locations across the U.S. reopening their doors to customers.

Some stores began welcoming shoppers again as early as April 10. However, you must wait longer if you’re a Big Lots fan in Alabama. Reopenings in the state are still a couple of weeks away.

Here’s what we know about the reopening plans and which Alabama locations are set to return.

Big Lots was sold to Gordon Brothers Retail Partners. In that deal, Variety Wholesalers acquired 219 Big Lots stores along with two distribution centers.

A press release announced that 55 Big Lots stores are set to reopen on May 1, with other waves of reopenings set to take place through early June.

The first wave of locations to open happened in Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Variety Wholesalers provided Nexstar with a list of locations to open each wave.

On May 1, four Alabama Big Lots locations will reopen their doors:

Athens: 5363 Highway 90 W, Ste C, Mobile, Ala.Decatur: 1820 6th Avenue SE, Decatur, Ala.Dothan: 2821 Montgomery Highway, Dothan, Ala.Mobile: 5363 Highway 90 W, Ste C, Mobile, Ala.

Following the first wave of openings two weeks later, four more Alabama stores will be set to open on May 15:

Cullman: 1619 Town Square SW, Cullman, Ala.Guntersville: 14228 US Highway 431, Guntersville, Ala.Jasper: 1100 Highway 78 W, Jasper, Ala.Northport: 5510 McFarland Blvd., Northport, Ala.

According to the company, openings will occur in Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia and other states.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Big Lots! brand back to life by offering more deals than ever, lots of famous brands and a new apparel department for the entire family,” said Lisa Seigies, president and CEO of Variety Wholesalers. “We’re opening stores quickly so we can serve the community. We know the stores won’t be perfect to start, but each week we’ll add more new products as we build towards the grand opening celebration in the fall. Every time a customer visits Big Lots! we want them to find something new and exciting!”
