Aug. 21—A 20-year-old Austin man made a first appearance in Mower County District Court Thursday morning where he faces three charges related to an alleged assault on a 14-year-old earlier in the week.
Adan Lagunas-Figueroa has been charged with felony first degree aggravated robbery and felony simple robbery along with misdemeanor fifth degree assault.
According to the court complaint, Lagunas-Figueroa is accused of assaulting the boy outside of the Kwik Trip in the 1200 block of Oakland Avenue West in the early morning hours of Aug. 19.
At around 6:46 a.m. on Aug. 19, an Austin Police Department officer met with the boy and the boy’s mother, who told him that he had been assaulted at around 5 a.m. While he didn’t know Lagunas-Figueroa, the victim said he would be able to identify him if he saw him again.
He also showed the officer a picture of Lagunas-Figueroa’s vehicle, a Silver Infiniti G37 which the officer recognized as being driven by Lagunas-Figueroa.
The boy continued by telling the officer that Lagunas-Figueroa had accused him of stealing from the store where the boy had just purchased a coffee and donut. Despite telling Lagunas-Figueroa he hadn’t stolen anything, Lagunas-Figueroa continued to accuse him of stealing, eventually getting out of the vehicle and allegedly assaulting the boy. The boy said Lagunas-Figueroa started slapping him and struck him multiple times. During this time, the victim said that Lagunas-Figueroa took his backpack and put it into the car, though the victim was later able to recover it.
Security footage obtained from Kwik Trip allegedly showed the encounter and while the boy is just out of frame, it did show Lagunas-Figueroa’s head as well as Lagunas-Figueroa starting to swing.
The victim eventually walks backwards into the frame with his hands up and Lagunas-Figueroa follows, allegedly punching the boy multiple times. Later in the footage, Lagunas-Figueroa can be seen carrying the boy’s backpack to the vehicle and closing the door.
The report goes on to say that when the victim tries recovering the backpack, Lagunas-Figueroa is seen striking him numerous more times.
Eventually, an employee is seen driving into the footage and Lagunas-Figueroa is witnessed talking with the employee just moments after the footage shows Lagunas-Figueroa continuing to chase the boy.
The employee later told another officer that he witnessed the boy running from Lagunas-Figueroa.
Early the following morning, on Aug. 20, the officer was alerted that Lagunas-Figueroa was back at the Kwik Trip, making contact and taking him into custody. Lagunas-Figueroa denied doing anything and was taken back to Mower County Jail.
Lagunes-Figueroa will have an initial appearance on Sept. 4.
