1 dead in early morning Interstate 5 crash south of Woodburn

One person died after an early morning crash on Interstate 5 south of Woodburn.

Oregon State Police spokesperson Capt. Kyle Kennedy said a crash involving two vehicles was reported at about 4:25 a.m. on Aug. 26.

Initial reports indicated the crash was caused by a wrong-way driver. There was one confirmed fatality.

Woodburn Fire District responded to the call and remained on scene for just over an hour, according to PulsePoint.

Kennedy declined to share the identity of the deceased individual or whether any arrests have been made.

Oregon Department of Transportation spokesperson Mindy McCartt said the southbound lanes of I-5 were closed at about 5 a.m., and one lane was briefly reopened twice before the freeway fully reopened at 8:36 a.m.
