A Commerce man was arrested this week on a charge of continuous sexual assault of a child under 14, according to Hunt County jail records.
Frankie Lee Hines, 57, was booked into custody on Monday on a charge filed out of Ward County in West Texas, records show. He was released the same day after posting a $50,000 bond.
Authorities have not released details about the case but the charge involves allegations of ongoing abuse of a minor.
Hunt County jail records indicate Hines was previously arrested in January 2023 on a charge of aggravated sexual assault and in May 2022 on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child. The outcomes of those cases were not immediately available.
Under Texas law, continuous sexual assault of a child is a first-degree felony. A conviction can carry a prison sentence ranging from 25 years to life without the possibility of parole. The statute requires proof that the defendant committed multiple acts of abuse over a period of time against the same victim. Convictions do not allow for probation under state sentencing guidelines.
