Aug. 28—What appeared to be human bones were found on Wednesday during a routine storm sewer maintenance inspection, according to Hamilton police.
While the department continues to investigate its missing persons cases from over the past few years, Hamilton Police Sgt. Brian Ungerbuehler said, “It would be way too early to speculate that this could be one of the missing people.”
A third-party contractor discovered the skeletal remains in the storm sewer system near the intersection of North Third and Market streets. This storm sewer line drains to the river levee from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and it has not been inspected for a decade, according to the city of Hamilton.
The Hamilton fire and police departments, the city’s Department of Infrastructure and investigators from the Butler County Coroner’s Office worked to safely recover the bones.
The Hamilton police department is working with the coroner’s office to continue to investigate the discovery.
Butler County Coroner’s Office Administrator Martin Schneider said they do not have any type of timeline on how long the office’s investigation may take.
