Two Wauwatosa police officers were injured in a crash Sept. 8 in Milwaukee while in pursuit of another vehicle.
The officers’ injuries were non-life-threatening, and the officers have been treated and released from a hospital, Wauwatosa Police Lt. Joseph Roy said in an email. As a result of the incident, two people were arrested — the driver of the vehicle officers were pursuing, and the driver of the vehicle that struck a squad car during the pursuit.
According to Wauwatosa police, the pursuit began around 7:20 p.m. Sept. 8, after officers located a Dodge Charger that had fled an attempted traffic stop Sept. 1. The vehicle was located near North 60th Street and West Silver Spring Drive.
Officers called for backup, and attempted a traffic stop on the Dodge Charger near North 20th Street and West Stark Street, but the vehicle operator drove away. Officers followed.
The Dodge Charger circled the area, then crashed into a pole in the 2100 block of West Stark Street. The driver — the vehicle’s lone occupant — fled on foot, but was arrested by officers, according to Wauwatosa police.
Police say the driver is a 48-year-old Milwaukee man with multiple arrest warrants. They plan to refer charges to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office “in the coming days,” Roy said.
During the pursuit, a vehicle crashed into one of the responding Wauwatosa police squad cars that had its lights activated at North 20th Street and West Hampton Avenue.
Milwaukee police arrested that driver, a 56-year-old man, on suspicion of OWI, Milwaukee Police Sgt. Efrain Cornejo said.
