A 33-year-old man was arrested Monday after Lake City police said he tried to set a house on fire. Damien Morgan is facing a felony arson charge for the fire at a residence Friday in the 500 block of SE Monroe Street, a Lake City police news release states.
The incident occurred when officers from the Lake City Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person and possible arson at the residence. Security footage showed a man in a purple hoodie and black pants near the home, and evidence at the scene suggested the fire was intentionally set.

The resident reported receiving an alert from her home security camera, which captured someone on her property, the news release states. Shortly after, she noticed a flash of light and smoke emanating from the side of her home, the news release states.
Upon reviewing the security footage, officers observed damage to the residence, including charred exterior panels and an open bottle of lighter fluid near the burned area. Morgan was identified as the suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
