BLANCHARD ― State authorities have been called in to investigate after a standoff with local law enforcement left a suspect and two other people dead in a small town about 30 miles south of Oklahoma City.
Just after 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, deputies with the McClain County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check request at a home near Coyle Drive and 300 Street after a neighbor reported hearing possible gunshots.
According to a news release from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, deputies made contact with a man armed with a gun at the home. They also found out two people were dead inside the house, according to the news release.
A truck with the McClain County Sheriff’s brand is seen parked at night. The sheriff’s office requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s assistance on a double homicide on Sept. 9.

Law enforcement attempted to provide commands to the gunman but he would not comply, leading to an exchange of gunfire with officers, according to the news release.
Deputies eventually entered the home Tuesday evening, where they found the man dead from a gunshot wound. Hunter McKee, a spokesman for OSBI, said Wednesday it had not yet been determined if the man had actually been shot by law enforcement or if he had shot himself.
Investigators also found another man and a woman dead of apparent gunshot wounds inside the home, OSBI said. McClain County authorities requested the OSBI’s help on the case Tuesday, and the investigation is ongoing.
