Cop’s unexplained shooting in Braintree: What we know

Must read

A Braintree police officer’s gun accidentally discharged in the parking lot of the department’s headquarters this week, striking a parked vehicle but causing no injuries, Chief Timothy Cohoon said in an emailed statement to Boston 25 News.

The incident happened Monday outside the police station on Union Street. Cohoon said the officer immediately notified a supervisor after the weapon fired. The department has taken the officer’s service firearm for testing as part of an internal review.

No one was hurt when the round struck an unoccupied car in the lot. Cohoon described the shooting as an “unintentional discharge” and said the matter remains under investigation.
