Raccoon steals package from New York porch

Sept. 11 (UPI) — A New York resident’s home security camera captured the moment a package was stolen from their porch by a masked porch pirate — a raccoon.

The Plattsburgh resident said the Chewy box, which contained $93 worth of pet food meant to be returned, had been left in a bin on the porch to be picked up by FedEx.

A local raccoon had other plans, however, and the security camera recorded video as the hungry animal shredded the box and feasted on its contents.

The resident said their camera also recorded the raccoon returning on subsequent nights to check the mail bin for more edible goods. They said Chewy understood the situation and still issued a full refund.

A Texas resident faced a similar situation in 2024 when a box of cookies delivered to their front door became a treat for a neighborhood opossum. The Southlake Police Department shared security camera footage of the theft on social media.
