Bethune-Cookman University is currently on lockdown, the school posted on social media on Thursday afternoon.
The lockdown is “due to a potential threat to campus safety,” the post said.

Classes at the HBCU have been canceled and students who live on campus are being asked to go to their dorm rooms and “shelter in place,” the post said.
Faculty and staff are being asked to go home, and “those not on campus should plan to work remotely,” the post said.
Howard University, another HBCU in Washington DC, said it has not received any threats, but was monitoring threats made against Alabama State University, Bethune-Cookman, Hampton University, Southern University, and Virginia State University.

Action News Jax sister station WSB-TV in Atlanta reports that HBCUs Clark Atlanta University and Spelman College were on a shelter-in-place order early Thursday afternoon.
We reached out to our local HBCU, Edward Waters University, to find out if it has received any threats and received this response:
“Edward Waters University (EWU) affirms that it has not received any terroristic threats related to recent reported threats at other HBCU’s in our state and throughout the country. EWU stands in steadfast support and solidarity with our peer institutions that have been impacted.
“The University remains fully committed to the safety and well-being of our campus community and is remaining vigilant in response to the recent HBCU threats by mobilizing heightened security efforts throughout the EWU campus.
“The University will continue to work closely with its own campus security and local law enforcement as it becomes necessary to maintain a safe and secure environment, while supporting all efforts that safeguard our students, faculty, and staff.”
