Driver fleeing from officers crashes into utility pole, Barberton police say

A 32-year-old Akron man who was allegedly fleeing Barberton police was injured the evening of Sept. 11 after the vehicle he was driving struck a utility pole, police said.

The incident began around 6 p.m. when Barberton officers were dispatched to a reported fight at a home on Florida Place. When officers arrived, the man involved took the woman’s vehicle and drove away, police said in a news release.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over and fled, police said.

The vehicle struck a pole and came to a stop in the front yard of a home in the 1100 block of Wooster Road West.

Barberton fire crews trasnported the man to Cleveland Clinic Akron General.

Charges against the driver are pending.

Barberton police and the Summit Metro Crash Response Team are investigating.

No further information was available on Sept. 11.
