A man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman with developmental disabilities, after Oregon prosecutors say she refused his money offer for sex.
Darryl Anthony Pearson, 36, was given a 4-year prison sentence in connection with the alleged 2024 sexual assault, the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office said in a Sept. 11 news release.
The Tukwila, Washington, man’s sentence comes after he pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted sexual abuse in August, prosecutors said.
Attorney information for Pearson was not immediately available.
The district attorney’s office said the 37-year-old woman, “who has been diagnosed with autism and fetal alcohol syndrome,” was shopping at an Oregon City shopping center on Sept. 16 when Pearson approached, she told police.
Pearson offered the woman $100 in exchange for having sex with him, but she refused, prosecutors said.
When Pearson then told her he could give her a ride home, the woman agreed, prosecutors said.
Pearson did not take her home but instead “drove her to a Gladstone church parking lot where he sexually assaulted her,” the district attorney’s office said.
After the woman reported the alleged assault to police, officials said “she was taken to the hospital where she was examined and a DNA sample collected.”
The DNA sample was entered into the Oregon State Police DNA database, where it was found to be a match with Pearson’s DNA profile, prosecutors said.
Prosecutors said that when Pearson was questioned, he denied being in Oregon City on the day of the alleged assault.
However, on that day Pearson appeared in Clackamas County Circuit Court for a separate case, he pleaded guilty to second-degree theft and criminal mischief and was sentenced to 18 months probation, according to prosecutors.
Pearson has an extensive criminal history in Washington, including burglary, robbery and child assault convictions, prosecutors said.
Oregon City is about a 10-mile drive south from Portland.
