An armed man and a woman were taken into custody after a standoff at an Everett motel Friday, according to the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team.
Officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving a man, a woman and a possible firearm at the FarWest Motel on Evergreen Way around 11:30 a.m.
When officers arrived, they found the two individuals, and confirmed that the man was armed with a handgun.
During an initial encounter, an altercation occurred, and one Everett officer fired their weapon. No one was hit during the gunfire.
The man and woman then went into a motel room believed to be theirs and barricaded themselves inside.
Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and asked them to come out, but received no response.
The Region 1 SWAT team was called in to assist. Police deployed multiple tactics to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution, including the use of a negotiator and a drone.
As the standoff continued, officers used less-lethal tools to help get the two to surrender.
Eventually, both the man and woman exited the room and were taken into custody without further incident.
The man suffered minor injuries and was treated by medics at the scene before being taken to a hospital. The woman was not injured.
No officers were hurt, and no one else at the motel was harmed.
The man will be booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of second-degree assault and first-degree criminal trespass. The woman will be booked for first-degree criminal trespass.
