Michigan man’s Powerball winnings are 3 times more than expected

Sept. 12 (UPI) — A Michigan man was in for a happy surprise after learning he won three times what he expected in a Powerball drawing in August.

Thomas Clark, of Clio, Mich., picked four of the five winning balls — 16-19-34-37-64 — in the Aug. 25 drawing to win $50,000. He forgot, though, that he also selected a Powerball number — 22 — which was also drawn.

“I play Powerball and Mega Millions whenever the jackpot starts getting up there,” Clark said, according to Michigan Lottery.

“I scanned my ticket at the store and got a message to file a claim at the lottery office. I forgot I added Power Play to my ticket, so I thought I’d only won $50,000. It was quite the surprise when I scanned the ticket on the app and $150,000 came up on the screen!”

Clark told Michigan Lottery he plans to use his winnings to pay off some debt, make home improvements and put into savings.

He purchased his winning ticket at the Conlee Country Store in Clio, about 15 miles northwest of Flint.
