A woman whose vehicle became trapped in flash flood waters was rescued by police officers early on Sept. 19 near Dixileta Drive and North Valley Parkway, according to Capt. Mike Johnson, a Phoenix Fire Department spokesperson.

Technical rescue teams were dispatched to the location at about 5 a.m., but Phoenix Police Department officers arrived first and assisted the person to safety, Johnson said.

Rob Scherer, a Phoenix Police spokesperson, said officers got the call shortly before 5 a.m. that a woman’s vehicle was “taking on water” and she could not get out of the car.

Officers went to the location and helped the woman out of her vehicle. The woman arranged for her vehicle to be towed, and officers took her home, according to Scherer.

The water level at the scene has since lowered, and no injuries were reported as a result of the incident, Scherer added.

The first arriving fire engine company stayed to evaluate the patient, while all other fire personnel returned to service, Johnson added.
